It needs to be de-institutionalized. Institutionalizing them hasn't worked. But aren't group homes just as bad (or worse?). Why not use the riverview grounds for a wellness centre, taking a holistic approach. They need to be treated with respect and to have someone to advocate for them. My daughter is presently a patient at riverview and I visit her everyday. It's so sad that the patients have nothing to do but sit around and smoke. And then they are discharged to the community and often end up on the street.
